Canada's largest food and pharmacy retailer (TSX: L); describes itself as 'Canada's food and pharmacy leader' and 'the nation's largest retailer' with more than 2,400 corporate, franchised and Associate-owned locations. Publicly traded but controlled by George Weston Limited, which beneficially owned 162,825,925 common shares, approximately 52.5% of Loblaw's outstanding common shares as of March 11, 2024, and 'Weston is controlled by Mr. Galen G. Weston' (Loblaw 2024 management proxy circular). Loblaw operates a mix of corporate and independently operated (franchised) grocery banners and has more than 500 franchise food retail stores in its network (George Weston 2024 Annual Report). Loblaw acquired T&T Supermarket in 2009 through its subsidiary Loblaws Inc. [1][2][3]
