Family-owned and operated Vancouver Island grocery group doing business as Country Grocer. Roots trace to 1984 (Food Country, founded by Wally Large and Henry Zwynenburg) and 1986 (Mr. Grocer, founded by Peter and Laura Cavin); the founding groups formally merged in 1997 to create the Island Independent Buying Group, a warehouse/distribution operation in Chemainus, BC. In February 2023 the group acquired the four Cowichan Valley 49th Parallel Grocery stores from the Richmond family, which now operate alongside the Country Grocer banner. [1][2][3]
