Outside British Columbia, IGA in Canada is a group of independent grocers supplied by Sobeys Inc., which franchises the IGA name; today these stores operate primarily in Quebec (including the IGA Extra format). Important distinction: IGA stores in British Columbia / Metro Vancouver are NOT part of Sobeys -- they are independently owned and operated/supplied by Georgia Main Food Group (the food operations of H.Y. Louie Co.), a separate company, so the Sobeys-affiliated IGA banner has no Metro Vancouver presence. [1][2]
