Otter Co-op
Otter Farm & Home Co-operative · cooperative · HQ Canada
Otter Co-op is a consumers' (member-owned) co-operative headquartered in Aldergrove, British Columbia. Its registered legal name is 'Otter Farm & Home Co-operative' (corrected on verification 2026-05-29: independent sources including Wikipedia, the Aldergrove Business Association business directory and multiple business listings confirm the legal name is 'Otter Farm & Home Co-operative', the name adopted on June 22, 1979 when it converted from the Otter District Farmers' Institute to an official co-operative; the prior value 'Otter Co-operative Association' was not supported by any verifiable source). Originally incorporated as the Otter District Farmers' Institute on November 13, 1922. It is owned by its members (~50,000+; Wikipedia cites 53,000 members as of 2015), each of whom pays a one-time $10 lifetime membership fee, holds one vote, and receives patronage refunds based on purchases. Otter Co-op is an independent local retail co-operative and a member-owner of Federated Co-operatives Limited within the Co-operative Retailing System; per Otter's own 'We Are Co-op' page, 'Every individual Co-op in Western Canada owns Federated Co-operatives Limited.' parent_slug is null: Otter Co-op is NOT a subsidiary of FCL — the ownership flows the other way (Otter is one of the co-ops that collectively own FCL). It is the CO-OP-banner retail co-op serving the Metro Vancouver/Fraser Valley area (Aldergrove, Langley, Surrey, Delta, Pitt Meadows, Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack) plus the BC Interior/Okanagan.
